The Liturgy of the Word, as a principal element of the Mass, contains the sacred texts of Scripture, revealing God speaking to His people.
Lectors are instituted as reader to proclaim the readings from Scripture. He may also announce the intentions for the general intercessions and, in the absence of the cantor of the psalms, read the psalm between the readings.
The Lector Ministry calls for a person to grow in a warm and loving knowledge of Scripture, the living Word of God. He is invited to enter a relationship with a Word that is creative, powerful and effective.
A Lector is called to be a communicator and a story teller of the richness of God's love for his people. The lector must be truly qualified and carefully prepared in order that the community will develop a warm and lively love for Scripture from listening to the reading of the sacred texts.
How to Become Involved
Students from all Year Levels who are keen to be Lectors, are invited to apply through Campus Ministry. We are always interested to hear from students who would like to serve the school community in this way.
All you need is self confidence, a good speaking voice and a generous heart.
Training
Prospective Lectors will be required to undertake some training, and they will always be required to practise thoroughly before a particular service.
