Archbishop Hickey Visits Trinity College

Archbishop Hickey was the guest and Chief Celebrant at our first Eucharistic Liturgy for 2005.
This Mass was celebrated in Trinity Chapel with the whole Year 12 student body of 185 boys.
The Principal, Mr Bothe, welcomed the Archbishop to Trinity, reminding the boys that Archbishop Barry was once a student in a Christian Brothers school (C.B.C. Kalgoorlie) just like these boys and he too had to face the decision of what was God calling him to do with his life. Mr Bothe said that he was proud to be able to present to the Arch bishop 34 senior boys who had applied to become Special Ministers of the Eucharist for 2005. He also told the Archbishop of some of the other ways that the faith-life of the school was alive and well.

In his homily, Archbishop Hickey told the boys that he had just returned from Vietnam where people still suffer for being committed Catholics, but that this did not deter them from practising their faith. And furthermore there were many young men wanting to be priests.

The Archbishop encouraged the Trinity students to think seriously about the possibility of God calling them to serve Him as a priest or a Religious. During the Mass, the 34 Special Ministers of the Eucharist were blessed and commissioned. 2005 has been declared the special Year of the Eucharist, and the Archbishop asked everyone to foster a greater love and reverence for the Eucharist in their lives. Each Special Minister received a badge. Badges for every boy in the Class of 2005 were also blessed and presented to the Pastoral Care Teachers of the Seniors. And finally, the Archbishop made a presentation of a little booklet containing words of encouragement and challenge to young people, to every senior boy. A group photo with the Archbishop was taken and then he joined the staff for morning tea where Mr Bothe presented him with an electronic pass to the College Swimming pool.

The Archbishop was obviously delighted and said that he would certainly use it. The Special Ministers for 2005 are: Bauer, Josh Bose, Rohan Bowen, Douglas Cain, Matthew Chidlow, Matthew Colli, Nathan, Cox, Thomas D?Souza, Joshua Dee, Shaun Di Gregorio, Cahal Dooley, David Dowsing, Bohdan Ferguson, Lee Filipek, Tomas Geldenhuys, Jason Gonsalves, Shane Hislop, Andrew Leong, Justin Lillywhite, Gerald Longman, Brendan Marshall, Eugene Maynard, Michael Morey, Josh Morphett, Stephen Naidu, Justin Nimbalker, Brian Parkinson, David Pass, Tim Perera, Haran Pham, Long Ryan, Joe Scivolo, Daniel Slack-Smith, Matthew Tan, Daniel
